Who is at risk of being trafficked?
People, adults, and children with the following vulnerabilities:
Drug or alcohol abuse
Disabilities
Mental health issues
Poverty
Runaways or homeless youths
Unable to access other employment
Those who lack knowledge or experience
Recent migration or relocation
Possible Indicators of Someone Being Trafficked
Disconnects from family, friends, community organizations, or church
Sudden or dramatic changes in behavior
Disoriented or confused, or shows mental/physical abuse signs
Has bruises in various stages of healing
Is fearful, timid, or submissive
Has signs of being denied food, water, sleep, or medical care
Often with someone, he/she defers to or seems to control situation
Appears to be coached on what to say
Lacks personal possessions
Limited freedom of movement
Living situation unsuitable conditions/not stable
Avoids eye contact, social interaction and law enforcement
